Présentation
Georges CANTIN, qui a grandi entre Pigalle et Montmartre, a beaucoup bourlingué avant de se fixer à Balaruc le Vieux sur les bords de l’étang de Thau.
Il se nourrit des Fauves et des Impressionnistes qu’il admire mais, une fois ces références digérées, il ne peut s’empêcher d’en dévier pour suivre son instinct et faire du « pur Cantin ».
Artiste accueillant et généreux, mais homme de caractère, Georges Cantin ne peint que ce dont il est épris.

Tout en nuances simples, il donne à voir les villages de Thau, les ocres de Roussillon et la garrigue... Si l'odeur pouvait aussi s'associer à l'aquarelle, de sa vision du Midi on en sentirait la «frigoule», et de la même façon pour les sons, on en entendrait les « tura lura » de l'alouette huppée.

Georges CANTIN (In English)
was born June 25, 1946, at Suresnes, at the foot of Mont Valerien. In Paris, he lived at the bottom of the ridge of the Montmartre District, where in the course of a stroll, one could encounter Jean Roger Caussimon, Charles Aznavour, Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel, and many other luminaries of the art world and showbiz.
It is in this universe of free creativity and bohemian life that will
mark him, that Georges CANTIN will discover his attraction to painting and drawing. It must be said that, at that time, the Place du Tertre at Montmartre, was packed with amateur and professional painters. Also, that his grandfather, an architect and a talented painter, isn’t perhaps totally foreign to the development of his passion for painting.
In December 1968, he leaves Paris for Touraine and settles at Montlouis sur Loire, on the slopes of the long and wild river. It is there that the luminosity of the Garden of France and the banks of the Loire River, will inspire him to paint his first watercolors. There too, he will mingle with some regional celebrities: Eugene Bizeau, a poet, wine maker and anarchist, Alexander Calder, and his mobiles at Sache, and others like Pierre Laurent Brenot at the Rivau castle.
In 1987 he leaves Touraine, direction the South of France. And it is the discovery of a light exceptionally pure, of the garrigues, of the aromatiques flavors, of the sea, and of the sunsets on the Etang de Thau.
His first display is at Frontignan, followed by exhibits in regional shows at Sete, Florensac, Frontignan, Balaruc, etc.
Autodidact, admirer of the Impressionists and of the Fauves, Georges CANTIN is not looking for fame. He enjoys sharing his passion for painting.
The light haze in the sunny passageways of his Village of Balaruc le Vieux and the variant luminosities denote his poetic manifestation of the moment. It is these emotions that Georges tries to capture to better transmit them to us. In this, he is a success !
